Hi.

Playgrounds, spraygrounds, and pools are a fun way to get Moms and kids out of the house and in the sunshine. Long Island has a multitude of fantastic playgrounds for residents and guests to enjoy.

Smith Street Park

Smith Street Park

This is a fabulous older park. It's small but also shady and empty! There is a baseball field and basketball and handball courts adjacent to the playground. The playground has monkey bars that are low enough for smaller kids to do themselves, music feature, and tube slides.

Towards the back there is a small sprinkler area. If it's off you can ask the staff from the recreation center to turn it on. Added bonus, it makes great white noise to lull babies to sleep! Change the kids behind the sprinkler wall if the playground is empty. You can change the kids in the restrooms in the recreation center or behind the brick sprinkler wall (it's fairly private if there aren't kids on the swings).

The ground is rubber under the playground and concrete in the spray section.

GOOD FOR: Younger kids on a hot day.

BEST FEATURE: The twisted slide that shot my kids off the bottom at quite a speed. They went down it 25 times.

YOU SHOULD KNOW: You can hear the Parkway but the noise isn't terrible. The park and playground are lit with street lights.

WORTH A LONG DRIVE: Yes, if you have young kids.
