Hi.

Playgrounds, spraygrounds, and pools are a fun way to get Moms and kids out of the house and in the sunshine. Long Island has a multitude of fantastic playgrounds for residents and guests to enjoy.

Shipwreck Cove Spray Park

Shipwreck Cove Spray Park

Located to the right of the parking area at the marina. There is a general pirate theme with sails, canons, and a crows nest. This is a big sprayground with a large shallow pool surrounding the structure. Kids can sit and crawl in the pool but it's not deep enough to swim.

It features big and small slides, sprinklers, and unexpected bucket dumps of water. Not all kids will like the unexpected aspects (particularly the very young). There are staircases and rope bridge as well as jets to circulate the water in the pool. Big and little kids will enjoy this but older kids may prefer a larger waterpark.

The fees can be expensive if you are not a Town of Islip resident. Admission is free with pool membership, $10 per person with proof of Town Residency (Driver's License), or $12 for a Non-Resident + $10 to park. It can fill up with a lot of kids so make sure you always have your eye on your own (among other reasons to watch them!). There is almost no shade so bring sunscreen and reapply as needed. There are restrooms outside the spray area and there is a snack bar open.

GOOD FOR: Cooling down if you live in the Town of Islip.

BEST FEATURE: Big water barrel which hovers over the slide and can really soak the kids.

YOU SHOULD KNOW: There aren't a lot of chairs and tables for the Moms so get there early and secure them before there are none left. Parents can mingle with the kids so wear your bathing suit if you wish.

WORTH A LONG DRIVE: Yes, but it can be expensive.
