Hi.

Playgrounds, spraygrounds, and pools are a fun way to get Moms and kids out of the house and in the sunshine. Long Island has a multitude of fantastic playgrounds for residents and guests to enjoy.

Seaman's Neck Park

Seaman's Neck Park

This park is way off Merrick Road but fairly easy to find.

Playground is medium-sized with a mix of newer and older sections. There are separated big kid and little kid play systems and swings with rubber ground and asphalt. There is a large sandbox and two smaller grassy sandboxes.

Spray area is older and needs staff to turn on. It is completely concrete so make sure the kids have water shoes. I played here as a kid thirty years ago and it's almost exactly the same. Moms can watch from benches or the lawn.

There is a mix of shade and sun but don't forget the sunscreen. The restrooms are located by the entrance to the playground area.

The playground and spray area are almost always empty so you are likely to have lots of room and park easily. There are sports fields, tennis/volleyball/handball courts, and a fishing area as well. While there could be lots of cars during peak game times, you should have no trouble parking for the playground.

GOOD FOR: Getting wet on a hot day without a crowd.

BEST FEATURE: No frills sprinkler area

YOU SHOULD KNOW: The playground is sunken-in with stairs and ramps to it. If you have a runner kid, it can be annoying to get to him if he leaves. There are lots of paved walks and slopes so bring the bike or scooter for extra fun. Large flies that have a hurtful bite live in the parking lot so don't leave your car doors open for long. Plan to change clothes and diapers in the bathroom rather than from your trunk.

WORTH A LONG DRIVE: Yes, the sprinkler area is always empty
