Nickerson Beach Playground
This is a large and unique playground, located in front of the sane dunes on the beach. There are several separate sections with atypical features that will delight older kids in particular. The entire playground is fenced in with a gate located on the parking lot side. It is brightly colored with a cute island treehouse theme.
The big kid play section has three large slides and a faux log to climb that is a little treacherous for younger kids. There is a math wall, stepping stops, monkey bars, a unique teeter totter, and a lot of other features. The long faux rock climb halves the playground and on the other side is the little kid play area. This side has a wobbly platform, a fish bridge, a corkscrew slide, and a spinner feature. There are also big and little kid swings. My kids had an absolute blast and really enjoyed the uniqueness of this playground.
There are no restrooms within sight but there is food sold nearby at the cabana. The ground is rubber.
As this is Nassau County-run, the cost is $10 for residents with Leisure Pass and $30 for those without. After 5pm, there is no one collecting the fee.
BEST FEATURE: Large faux rock climb ribbon wall.
GOOD FOR: Letting the kids get hot before a beach day.
YOU SHOULD KNOW: Nickerson is also a camp ground so you'll find a lot of vacationers at this playground from daylight to dusk.
WORTH A LONG DRIVE: Yes, there is a lot to do here.
