Indian Island County Park Playgrounds
There are two playgrounds at this large camping park. Drive through the entrance to a fork in the road. Make a left for the large, shadier playground or make a right to the sunnier, little kid playground.
THE SHADY PLAYGROUND will be on the left side of the road under the trees. There is a long tube slide, monkey bars, and fireman pole. Separate from the primary section there are tall swings and a metal train. The grounds are sand and wood chips. Picnic tables and a large open field surround the playground area. The restrooms are located behind the nearby pavilion. They seem to be made for elementary children so the equipment is hilariously low to the ground.
THE SUNNY PLAYGROUND is also on the left side of the road, fully exposed in the sun. The equipment is smaller and seems better for younger kids. There are tic-tac-toe features, spinning logs and pedals, small slides, and a chain ladder. The ground is a mix of grass and woodchips. By the nearby pavilion there are restrooms.
GOOD FOR: Playing before or after a day at the Long Island Aquarium.
BEST FEATURE: Super high swings, great for crazy speeds and height. They provide great views of the woods and they are completely silent (no creaking).
YOU SHOULD KNOW: Presently there is a bridge missing so there is an expanse that could be dangerous. The kids were curious about it but none did anything that injured themselves. Also, there is no fee during the week but an $8 fee on weekends and holidays.
WORTH A LONG DRIVE: Not for the playground alone.
